Chinese Chess Club

Xiangqi (Chinese Chess) and International Chess have similarities and differences. Many people in the U.S. know international Chess, but few people know Xiangqi. They have different rules using different strategies. There are unique benefits of playing Xiangqi. Xiangqi is played by over a billion people worldwide and most of them are in China, Vietnam and Singapore. Xiangqi fosters the young people’s ability for strategic thinking, planning and tactics. It trains people to think ahead of a few steps before each move. It can also train young people’s patience and leadership to fight for a winning battle and dealing with challenges in all aspects of their lives. Xiangqi reflects the ancient Asian history and culture from its creation up to modern days through thousands of years of progression. It can serve as a vehicle for a culture exchange and understanding of the different approach in life and in battlefield.

I have taken one quotation from www.XQENGLISH.com : “Life is like a game of chess, both hard, and soft, always in harmony… Chess is like the journey through life, pressing forward, moving backward, a game of life and death… The engrossed player, and the all-knowing onlooker”

Major benefits resulted from playing Xiangqi: 1. better visualization; 2. improved focus; 3. improved concentration; 4. improved logical thinking and strategic planning; 5. better problem-solving skills; 6. mind training and brain development; 7. character development, learning through adversity, learning from one’s mistakes; 8. practice winning and losing with grace
